Having delivered entertainment to elderly care home residents since 1996, I changed my focus in 2011 from delivery of entertainment to delivery of interaction to ensure that my audiences became much more involved in the whole experience. With that vision, I created my business Motivational Music which has been delivering interactive music sessions to elderly people ever since, encouraging them to really get involved, make music, sing, move and have lots of fun.
Each session is tailored to the group. Depending on its’ needs, my main objective is to get my audience involved, singing, using light instruments and props, introducing light movement and above all having lots of fun.
In the care homes, I encourage staff to have fun with their residents and join in too so, by the time I leave, everyone is feeling much more energised, confident and uplifted than when I first arrived. I am happy to work with you to deliver the music session you require for your residents. I can deliver Sing Along sessions with song books, depending on the needs of your residents; Motivational Music sessions which include some Sing Along followed by music making and having fun with props and light instruments; Themed Music sessions e.g. St Patrick’s Day, St Andrews Day, Music Hall etc; Birthday Party celebrations with a selection of music tailored for the resident with the Birthday. I also have experience of bringing music to Dementia Units.
I love singing music hall, war time and songs from the shows and have an extensive repertoire of 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s songs which are well received by my audiences.
Using my skills and experience in drama, musical theatre and physical education, I have had much success bringing singing and motivational music to the elderly in a way which is fun, interactive and inspiring for all involved. In 2013 I was delighted to become Choir Mistress to The Oldest Choir In The World.
The feedback I have received from care home staff and residents has been wonderful.
“It was an absolutely fantastic afternoon. The ladies and gents all really enjoyed it and I’ve never seen them all so active and happy. I think you got it exactly right.” Daphne Johnson, Crystal Court, Harrogate.
“Hi Ruth, thanks for a fabulous afternoon. We all really enjoyed it. I love how you get the residents involved it’s great.” Rachel Liddell, Barchester, Stamford Bridge.
“I think Ruth is wonderful because she’s got so much patience. She is very patient with everyone whatever their state of mind. She has so much energy and she inspires us to do things well and to put a lot of effort into everything we do. I love singing and enjoy the community of our choir and everything that goes with it. It is a way of meeting new people. All together Ruth is a super person and a great friend.” Oldest Choir Member
